Arts or science?
Anyone who asks me why I’m in this course, please raise your hand. (Few hands raised). Anyone who doesn’t believe me that I am studying Creative Multimedia please raise your hand (More hands raised). O_O okay…..
Yes there are times where most people really, really wonder why am i here, or why I am not in the field of scientists, doctors, engineers, lawyers or any other field that requires good grades and moreover studying thousands of textbooks. Worse still, some people think I’m a nerd! Believe me or not, I don’t really like these area of studies. I am just not a studious type. Really! I never burn my midnight oil to study biology or physics during my school days, and even pick up the books to read a few days before the exam, and yet I score a surprising As in the end. Yes, that’s how I live through my science stream days of my life.
My high school years are troubling, especially Form 4. I was put into a so-called "elite" class. I can’t catch up with my peers, and my score is below average of the class…. You will be surprised when you find yourself in embarassment when you are in the bottom bracket of the class achievement even though you score a 67 in physics or chemistry. Only when I got out of the class I can learn better in a relaxed atmosphere, and grades significantly improved then.
Why am I here you ask? Well even though I like a little bit of science (including experiments in the labs that have potential to burn down the lab) but also I like arts. I usually find amused and enjoyment when I saw any artform, be it artworks, literature or music. That’s why I’m here, where science and arts are somewhat balanced. Yes, I do not believe we are fully art students, as there are a little bit of technological ascpect to our course.
Besides, I am so not a nerd, a geek or anything that relates to these stereotypes. Though I wear glasses that make others dizzy if they wear mine, do not really follow fashion trends, not really good at sports, still single, loves to read. (That really checks all the criteria of being one, do they?) BUT I do not study like a freak, knows how to enjoy life, use both sides of my brains, has slight sense of humour (as long the joke is not on me) and not being boring as a person or my lifestyle. So technically speaking and I repeat: I am NOT a nerd.
So am I a science person or artsy person? Why not both? Someday I will be a new age Renaissance man….

Just saying my oppinion.

The word “nerd” gives the meaning of boring, dull, anti-social and basically downright not fun. So people tend not to mix with them.
I do realise smarter people are more analytical and philosophical in their minds, that’s the thing other people can’t do. You’re right on that.
