Trends

June 25th, 2007 by calvinchia

To be really honest, i am slow in catching up the trends of the people today. I’m was not updated that certain fads and clothes are no longer "in", new gadgets that are only heard but not owned, and terms and slang words that seem Greek to me. The thing is, I tried to catch up, didn’t find it worth while, and decided not to after that… talk about a rebel in trends and fashion O.o

To be really honest, i do not find trends are that worthy to pursue. i do not understand people are being mall rats to buy the new trendy clothes while their old ones are still wearable and still look hip in 2007. Are people that superficial when it comes to modern styles?

To be really honest, to become the most hippest person in the society, one HAS to have a lot of money to burn, a pair of alert ears to hear the fashion news, a keen eye in recognizing what’s new, what’s not. I rather not to waste my energy to do to greatest lengths to find the suit that is featured in the whatever-the-brand’s-name-is 2007/2008 fall collection runway fashion show in Paris.

To be really honest, I believe one day everyone will have the same thought as mine, stop persuing these meaningless things, and laugh at people who are doing so. That’s why you never see an elderly woman trying so hard to get the 2007 look because they don’t find it interesting anymore. (though i might not be surprise someone at that age doing the things young people trying to do)

To be really honest, I want to look hip and modern in the eyes of the world too. At the end of the day… everyone is THAT desperate to keep up and to be part of the society, the modern, "superficial" one to be exact.

The Game of Risk

June 16th, 2007 by calvinchia

I got to know the game of "risk" through my friends, and i finally got to witness the game in play. In short, it is a game of world domination, filled with strategies, wit and a little bit of luck. After a series of attacks, alliances and an accident that causes the little army figurines to flip all over the place, i felt the game is interesting, fun and sort of life-related.

Point is, our live are filled with risks and decisions to be made. Some we took and reap the rewards, some we took and suffer from its consequences, others we simply avoid when we feel it is not worth the effort. Whenever we work, play, invest, buy things, and doing other more mundane activities, we just have to take some chances at one point.

Even when we get the thrills and the fun out of taking chances. Roller coaters, bungee jmping, sky diving, skating and all other activities that you can name that bring a lot of fun inexchange with posing some form of danger. It is kinda odd that things that are more fun tend to be more dangerous than it looks.

Once my debate trainer told me, "Don’t be a spectator in life". In a way it is true. Living the life is so much better than seeing it happen. Next time i want to try my hands on the game some other time.

2 years of blogging….

June 10th, 2007 by calvinchia

yeap… it will be official next month, i have been blogging for 2 years already. it was also my 2 years of ups and downs, crazy times, life-changing experiences and great memories.

Although i do not recieve many comments, t but i can tell you that this blog has been read by many friends of mine from different areas of my life, be it high school, university or debates. How do i know that? Well, people just come to me and said it… and even complimented it :).

Of course with compliments comes with harsh criticisms of my blog content, request of removal of some "inappropriate things", and of course, i listen to my fans. What’s more important than the support i get from writing my humble blog?

I thank everyone who spent a little of their time to read my blog, and continued to catch up on any updates i’ve made. (I know it’s not a lot, but i try to post twice a month at least). Moreover, i would like to apologize for any mistakes done to anyone at all via blogging, whether it is factual errors, spelling mistakes, statements that offend anyone and other inaccuracies.

Thanks guys! and yeah i will continue blogging no matter what!

Miss Beauty Pageants

May 29th, 2007 by calvinchia

Forget about controversies. This is an entertainment (guilty pleasures) of many that is still viewed by 1 billion people worldwide.

Forget about objectifying women. Beauty pageants are actually putting women into the spotlight to fight causes for charity and in some cases women’s rights.

All that, Miss Universe had thought me some good stuff, this year’s is so much more meaningful:
1. How diverse our world’s culture is. Our Geography lessons are so limited in our own country that we seem to forgot there are many nations that are worth to learn from.

2. Beauty is not clear-cut defined. I was surprised to see Miss Tanzania compete with her bald head. To be honest, she is pretty gorgeous. I guess her bald head really helped her to stand out. If she has wavy hair like the rest of the contestants, she might be crowned instead of the equally sassy Miss Japan.

3. Maintaining your cool. There’s been a lot of talk about Miss USA fell on her bottom and still managed to get into top 5 (another shocker). As expected, she was booed from the audience, and yet she maintained her cool and answered her question. A true sportsmanship at show here…

4. It’s about time the domination of Latin Americans and Europeans to end. Yes I admit they are all hot, but hey, hotties are found globally. What about indians, koreans, thais and filipinos from Asia and other countries form Africa? Well it is about time that the crown goes to miss Japan…

So there’s a lot to learn from miss universe. I hope all the misconception of women wearing swimsuits, parading her bodies would all end.

I want to go….

May 15th, 2007 by calvinchia

Just a list I come up and refer to if i’m thinking to go somewhere out of the country. Here goes in random order:

20 Countries I wish to Go
1. Italy - Hands down one of the nicest country I wanted to go. I heard Milan is just great. Rome? Love the authencity. Possibly I stop by to Venice if i’m there.

2. Japan - Tokyo may be one of the busiest cities in the world (and possibly the most costly to live in), I want to feel the craziness of the city, and hop in their bullet trains to sight see (don’t know why but i just want to experience how fast can it go). Culture there is really cool, so there’s more to expect than original sushi.

3. Spain - Espanol, baby! Great architecture there, and also the culture. I’m not into matadors or something like that. One of the reasons i wanted to learn Spanish so that i can mingle around with the locals. Cities i wanted to go are Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

4. Korea - The South one to be specific, and guess what,  i just missed the oppotunity to go there :(… Anyways here’s what i wanted to experience: the food and the sights. Heard Seoul is quite happening there too …

5. Thailand - Great place to go to, and darn i want to ride on a tuk tuk! Bangkok’s nightlife is kinda cool too (Mot the ones you’re thinking you dirty minded peeps!)

6. France - Paris is definately a must-see, Nice is nice (pardon the pun). Definately i’m going for the Eiffel Tower and the Norte Dame!

7. China - Beijing and Shanghai (Hong Kong is in if you count it’s in china) tops the list of must go cities in China. This would be the largest country i would like to visit and i think it would take months to visit all the famous places there.

8. Philippines - Beaches are a must when it comes to Philippines. A must have delicay is the belut (a disgusting looking duck foetus, they collected the eggs just before they hatch). I heard it’s kinda tastes good…

9. Germany - Best time to go is during Oktober fest… (Hints for beer-loving peeps!). Berlin, Cologne and Munich are cities to go sight seeing.

10. Portugal - Wine, tarts, Mediterranean food… Never knew there’s so much good stuff from there!

11. Nedtherlands - Or Holland (which i found out its not correct to use it interchagably). What more to expect than filed of tulips, windmills and the most liberal society ever found on earth?

12. Vietnam -

13. Ireland -

14. Denmark -

15. UAE - The sole country in the Middle East on my list, yeaps… Just wanted to see how upscale Dubai is… If only i’m rich enough to enjoy it.

16. India - The Delhi and Taj Mahal piques my interest to go there.

17. Australia - Sydney and Melbourne here I come! I felt like going to the roller coasters there… they seem pretty awesome

18. Taiwan - Food, Sights and History. Period.

19. Greece - Magnificent historic background and hey what else you wanna see in Athens by the way?

20. UK - I definately fall for the Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Double Decker buses and everything else that all found in London.

By the way, it’s just a thought. You can’t stop a guy from dreaming!

Internet is for PORN

May 10th, 2007 by calvinchia

You heard me….

Yeaps, our technology keeps evolving and hey it’s getting more errrm… "personal pleasures satisfying…"

for those who have not heard this song from avenue Q:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWEjvCRPrCo

I just got to know that Avenue q is a musical which is a spoof of sesame street… complete with appealing monsters and human characters (I would say the evil twin of it). Plus it had won awards!

Come to think of it… that statement does hold truth

Gender Roles

May 1st, 2007 by calvinchia

It’s no new thing that we noticed that gender roles have been changed, far from the traditional gender roles. No more men is the sole provider of the family and the women in the house is the caretakers of the children. Things that are considered as "boys toys" are now well recieved by the ladies, the reverse is also true.

Now most women are employed and can provide equal financial stability for the household, more women are gaining control of their lives, getting more rights and do so much more to break the mould of "what women should do". Men on the other hand, willing to share household chores, raising kids and involving themselves more into the family.

In terms of relationships, more women are open to get their Mr. Right, to persue rather than waiting for the right one, and sometimes be blatantly honest what they wanted in their love life. More men are fine with being submissive in relationships, letting their partner to wear the pants and so on.

Is the change good or bad? To me i feel indifferent about this. At one note i’m fine with the ladies getting equal control in anything, and at the same time worry that the guys may not like it. Well, it kinda blows a man’s high ego.

I heard the song "I Wanna Have Your Babies" by Natasha Bedingfield. A song that clearly depicts a girl being honest what she wanted in love, but tries not to rush it to scare the guys off. A clear indication that the girls are no longer the timid one in romantic persuits…

Leaving on a jet plane

April 17th, 2007 by calvinchia

Just a feel good song about farewell and stuff….

"Leaving On A Jet Plane"

I’m … I’m …

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin’, it’s early morn
The taxi’s waitin’, he’s blowin’ his horn
Already I’m so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

I’m …

There’s so many times I’ve let you down
So many times I’ve played around
I’ll tell you now, they don’t mean a thing

Every place I go, I think of you
Every song I sing, I sing for you
When I come back I’ll wear your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time, oh, let me kiss you
And close your eyes and I’ll be on my way

Dream about the days to come
When I won’t have to leave alone
About the times that I won’t have to say …

Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

And I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

But I’m leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
Leaving on a jet plane
(Ah ah ah ah)
(Leaving) On a jet plane

Respect

April 9th, 2007 by calvinchia

We always heard people talk about respecting parents, teachers, employers and anyone who has an authority. Well is it true that status should deserve respect?

First I’ll tackle the idea that respect should come with status. yesi agree status is earned through hard work and achievements, but once a person gets the position they wanted all along, they become comfortable of having respect and power over others. Hence they slack off, they do not treat people the same way, they become snobbish…. literally they have become like a nasty emperor whom we wisg to overthrow someday. How could I respect a person who does not respect others?

And yet, There are things people do that earned people’s salutation. They still work as hard to improve and strife above others when it comes to career, they are still humble to people after all the successes he/she garnered in his/her life. They have the responsibility to live up to their standards to show the world that they really deserve higher position because he/she gave effort to what a person with authority has to do. These are the few I really respect in life.

Personally, I believe more respect should be given to the people who are the ones i have mentioned above. I really admire these people who set as an example as a leader or just an individual for the others to follow their footsteps to be a successful person in life…

Before Your Love

April 4th, 2007 by calvinchia

Some of the lesser known songs by Kelly Clarkson… I heard this once and i thought: It’s beautiful…

"Before Your Love"

I wonder how I ever made it through a day
How did I settle for the world in shades of gray
When you go in circles all the scenery looks the same
And you don’t know why
And I looked into your eyes
Where the road stretched out in front of me
And I realized

I’d never lived
Before your love
I’d never felt
Before your touch
And I’d never needed anyone
To make me feel alive
But then again,
I wasn’t really livin’

I’d never lived…
Before your love

I wanted more than just an ordinary life
All of my dreams, seemed like castles in the sky
I stand before you and my heart is in your hands
And I don’t know how
I’d survive without your kiss
Cuz you’ve given me
A reason to exist

I’d never lived
Before your love
I’d never felt
Before your touch
I’d never needed anyone
To make me feel alive
But then again,
I wasn’t really livin’

I’d never lived… before your love
I’d never lived… Before your love

And I don’t know why
Why the sun decides to shine
But you’ve breathed your love into me just in time
I’d never lived
Before your love
I’d never felt
Before your touch
I’d never needed anyone
To make me feel alive
But then again
I wasn’t really livin’

I’d never lived
I’d never lived
Before!…
Your!!…
Love!!!…
